Pork, Not Just Bad For Your Heart

So I found this article by the Washington Post, which pretty much demolishes the entire meme that is being put out by the Bush haters, that it was Bush’s cuts in a couple projects that left New Orleans unprotected for Katrina. Apparently, the government has allocated BILLIONS of dollars to the state of Lousiana for various projects, but they didn’t always spend wisely. So, uh, let’s move on to a real solution, ok?

The real problems are that the way our government runs, and the way people perceive government to now be the national nanny. The citizens of Lousiana pay money in taxes to the federal government, and then pray that their congress people get enough pork slipped into enough bills to bring the money back to the state. Of course, there is no guarantee that the money will actually go to the needs of the state versus the needs of the campaign contributors.

I don’t say this to defend Bush, but to say that I highly disagree and abhor the idea of depending on the federal government to allocate funds properly to deal with local concerns.
