What’s Kos So Afraid Of?

As anyone who follows politics knows, Ned Lamont beat out Joe Leieberman in the Democratic Party’s state primary on August 8th. It was a very close race, but Lieberman’s loss was widely seen as a shift on the American political landscape. I’m not sure what shift, if any occurred. All Lamont has done so far is win the nomination to run for senator in a very liberal state, facing only token Republican opposition. Sure, he beat a three term senator who was running for re-election, but no one would consider Lieberman a dynamic figure, with a great amount of charisma. It also didn’t help Lieberman, that he initially didn’t take the Lamont campaign seriously. Lieberman decided to run as an independent, citing wide support across the state, with some polls showing him beating Lamont statewide.

One of Lamont’s supporters, was the website the DailyKos. The DailyKos is run by Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, a card carrying member of the liberal progressive movement. He talks about getting back to “people powered politics” and what a politcial earthquake Lamont’s victory was. While I applaud Zúniga’s use of alliteration to come up with a snappy slogan, I think the reality is, he is nothing more than a power hungry political hack.

First, a political victory for a man worth at least ninety million dollars is not exactly groundbreaking. The morning after the victory, as I was reading the DailyKos, I thought to myself, “Wow, they got another rich white man elected. Good job guys!”. Secondly, Zúniga has a real problem with Lieberman’s independent run. Why? Well, I assume it’s because he thinks Leiberman would win the statewide election, rendering his version of “people powered politics” moot. According to Zúniga, Lieberman has no right to run for office, because he lost the Democratic nomination.

What hypocrisy! For all his talk about “people powered politics” and “earthquakes”, he has no real devotion to democracy or the people’s will. Lieberman has broad support, and nothing Zúniga says can take that away. He can blog (as he has done frequently in the last two weeks) all he wants about how Lieberman is a sore loser, but it is nothing but hypocrisy.

If you want democracy, Markos, then you have to accept the fact that Lieberman is a credible canididate in the state of Connecticut. If you were really honest, you’d mention his independent run as a great example of “people powered politics”.

However, it’s all about the game to Markos. He’s not worried about the will of the people. He’s not worried about real, honest debate. He’s just a hack, no different then Rove or Begala. Just a sad little hack.

I have been on DKos long enough that my UID is #207. I read it every day, and somehow I missed everything you claim is being said there.

What is your User ID#, so I can look up a few of your posts on Kos? Obviously you wouldn’t be claiming to know a lot about the site and its founder without logging on frequently. Can you identify some of the posts or diaries that led you to this strange conclusion about Markos, that runs counter to pretty nearly everything he says?

I don’t know what you are smoking, but whatever you think about the Lieberman campaign, he’s a dead man walking.

“People powered?” Please. MBNA and Big Pharma powered.

Are you saying you need examples of where Kos has talked about how and why Lieberman shouldn’t run as an independent?

I’m sure you did miss everything I said. I haven’t drank the DailyKos Kool-Aid.
