I was referring to the recent over commercialization of Christmas and the whole concept of "good will towards men" which dates from the early 1800s, which is different than the middle ages on Christmas traditions.  But as you said, the father you go back in history, the less Christian the season is.</description>

I think you could safely say that it's the Christian traditions that have been recently associated with the secular (and other) holiday.  &lt;a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_winter_festivals" rel="nofollow"&gt;This list&lt;/a&gt; shows that the Christians, try as they might, don't have a monopoly on the idea of having a celebration around the winter solstice.</description>
